If you’re like me, you probably hate when people ghost you. Well, guess what? Your recruiter might be ghosting you! Don’t worry, though. I’m going to give you some tips on what to do if this happens to you. Stay tuned!
First of all, what is ghosting?
Ghosting is defined as “the practice of abruptly ceasing all communication with someone with whom you have been in close or regular contact, especially an online relationship, after some time.” In other words, your recruiter suddenly stops talking to you and doesn’t give you any explanation why.
This can be extremely frustrating, especially if you were really looking forward to the job. But don’t despair! There are things you can do if your recruiter ghosts you.
1. Try to contact the recruiter directly.
If you have the recruiter’s contact information, try reaching out to them directly. It’s possible that there was a mix-up and the recruiter is not ghosting you. If you can’t get in touch with the recruiter, move on to step 2.
2. Check the company’s website or social media.
Sometimes recruiters will post job openings on the company’s website or social media. If you see the job you applied for listed, it’s likely that the recruiter is not ghosting you but is just taking a different hiring approach.
3. Look for other job openings.
If you’re having trouble getting in touch with the recruiter and you can’t find the job listing on the company’s website or social media, it’s probably time to move on and look for other job openings. Don’t waste your time worrying about the recruiter who ghosted you.
4. Contact a different recruiter.
If you’re still interested in the company, reach out to another recruiter at the company. It’s possible that the first recruiter was not a good fit for you and that the second recruiter will be a better match.
5. Let it go.
There is plenty of fish in the sea! If you’ve tried all of the above and you’re still getting nowhere, it’s time to let it go and move on. Don’t dwell on the recruiter who ghosted you. There are other job opportunities out there!
